Reasons:
- Wearing properly fitting helmet can prevent 85% of cyclist’ head injuries
Safety Standards:
- SPSC sticker – Consumer Product Safety Commission approved
- MIPS – Multidirectional Impact Protection System
- Reduces brain injury from rotational force crashes
Types:
- Road
- Lots of vents for air flow
- Light weight & aerodynamic
- No visor
- Mountain
- Less venting
- More coverage on sides & back of head
- Built-in visor
To Fit/Adjust:
- Get correct size – based on head size
- Low, Level & Snug
- Sits low on forehead & level
- Adjust all straps/retention systems until helmet is snug
- Shouldn’t move than 1” in any direction
- Side straps should connect just below ear
- No more than 1 finger between chin strap & chin
When to Replace:
- After a crash or heavy impact
- Anything w/ Styrofoam liner
- Faded…UV degradation
- Don’t buy “used”!!
