Cold Soak Ramen Noodles

In recent years I’ve really gotten into the ultralight concept for backpacking.  Frankly, it’s brilliant!  The less you take…the lighter your pack…the easier it is on your body!  When I think back to my early days in The Mountaineers where we took everything AND the kitchen sink, I cringe at how heavy my pack was.  And I paid for it in all-over body soreness, slow speeds & blisters…oh, the blisters.  But now, with a 20lb (or less!) pack weight, I’m able to hike in trail running shoes (so comfy!), move at a much faster pace & enjoy how my body feels at the end of the day!  To get that pack weight down, cold soaking is a tried-and-true ultralight trick.  No stove, no fuel…just a few ingredients + water + time & you have a delish & filling trail meal!  Give these Cold Soak Ramen Noodles a try on your next backpacking trip!

You’ll need a sturdy jar with a secure screw top lid to make this recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1 Packet of instant ramen noodles
  • Water
  • Tuna packet (any flavor)
  • Olive oil (for extra calories – carry in a secure container)
  • Extras – crushed red peppers, instant mashed potatoes, dehydrated veggies

Put ramen & any extras into a secure screw top jar.  Add water, olive oil & cold soak for 60-90 min.  Add tuna packet & enjoy!
