Becoming more comfortable in water changes people’s lives. With just a bit of education on how a human body works in water, you can see confidence levels rise. And when folks are more confident, they are more willing to try new skill sets. And when they master new skill sets, their confidence grows even more. It’s almost a chicken & egg problem. Which comes first…confidence or skill set mastery? In the end, it doesn’t matter. As long as folks can transition from water fear to water enjoyment, that’s the key piece. Kudos to Dalia Pedro on getting to this happy place! She’s done the work…and it’s paid off!
In Dalia’s own words:
“I have never liked water. Or at the very least, I have never felt comfortable in it. I never learned to swim as a kid, so water was something I had to endure, but could not enjoy.
My outlet for exercise has always been trail running. Because of that I never thought I’d need to learn to swim. Then 2 yrs ago I got injured & I haven’t been able to run like I used to. Oh…and I got a puppy who loves to be out on the water!
These are the 2 major reasons I decided to give swimming a try. And I’m really glad I did! A lot of my fear was simply a lack of understanding about how my body works in water.
Amazingly I’ve found being in the water to be quite peaceful. It’s one of the few times during my week when I can completely unplug & just focus on me…and the water.
Recently I did an overnight rafting trip through Hells Canyon. For the first time ever, I was able to jump out of the raft (with a life jacket on, of course) & not freak out! I’m really excited to keep this learning journey going & to keep growing my water skills!”
