“It’s Time for a Change. I’m Retiring!” by Coach Michelle

But at the laste, as every thing hath ende,

She took hir leve, and nedes wolde wende.

(Geoffrey Chaucer, Troilus and Criseyde)

Chaucer pretty much summed it up when he wrote the above lines – all good things eventually come to an end.  And so it is with Performance High.  After 24 amazing, wonderful & challenging years, I’m closing down this little business of mine.  It’s time to move on, time to shift gears, time to focus on different things…it’s time for a change!

Thankfully, I still love what I do.  I love all my clients.  I love the work.  I love this newsletter!  But I’ve always felt that it’s better to proactively decide to leave something rather than be forced into the decision because of frustration, irritation and/or necessity.

What comes next?  I don’t know exactly!  But I do have a list of things that I am so looking forward to spending more time on:

  • Travel
  • My piano
  • Volunteering
  • Friends
  • Sleeping past 3:45AM & staying up past 7:30PM
  • Getting a music degree
  • Learning French
  • Training myself for a 70.3
  • Swimming in a group
  • Bigger backpacking trips
  • Redoing my backyard
  • Reading, reading, reading
  • Doing a regular yoga / meditation practice
  • More in-depth cooking

As a business owner, one of my KEY priorities has been to develop close relationships with my clients past & present.  Relationships are what makes this world a better place.  And so, over the next 4 weeks (Apr 30 is my last day), I will highlight small business owners who I know will take great care of all y’all.  Be it swimming, coaching, equipment, nutrition, rehab…I have someone for you!  Stay tuned for more info!

Finally, I want to say thank YOU!  Thank you for your support over these 24 years.  Everything I’ve accomplished can be directly attributed to you!  Y’all mean the world to me!

Peace,

Coach Michelle

Thank you both for your kind thoughts! 🙂 I am very excited for this next chapter…though closing this one has been quite emotional. And everyone I’ve talked to about retirement says the same – they never want to go back! Onward!!

    Michelle,
Your impact on triathlon, swimming, and endurance athletics in Boise is unmatched. Congrats on an incredible career doing something you love, and inspiring, challenging, and motivating so many. It would be hard to measure the true impact you have really had, and the lives that are forever changed or for the better because of your heart, passion, and dedication to those you served.
Onward and Upward! Can’t wait to see you enjoying retirement !

“Learning French”!?!? Très bien ! Two sources come to mind: 1. After you reach 65, you can audit classes at Boise State for really cheap. Before then, you gotta pay just like the 18 year olds. Disclaimer: Policies change on occasion so keep in touch with the appropriate department. Advice: As long as you gotta pay for it, don’t audit, get credit. Credits have a way of adding up. 2. Contact the local Alliance Française which welcomes everyone interested in French culture or language. http://www.afboise.org.
