How’d you get started in the sport of triathlon?
I started doing triathlons about 2 years ago as the result of an ankle injury! I had been running prior to that but the injury prevented me from running for almost a year. My doctor suggested I try swimming as a form of exercise while the ankle healed. The only problem was I didn’t know how to swim! I was ready for a new challenge so I learned how to swim so I could do triathlons.
What’s the biggest challenge you’ve had to overcome in the sport?
The biggest challenge I’ve had to overcome is my fear of water. When I started out on this journey I couldn’t swim the length of the pool and was terrified of open water. It has also been difficult getting used to swimming around other people.
What has been the greatest benefit of having a coach?
I love having a coach so I never have to wonder if I am doing the right amount of training. I know if I follow her plans I will always be improving and will be prepared for each race.
What is your favorite thing to do to take a break from triathlon/tri training…and why?
During the winter months, I take a break from focused training so I can ski as much as possible. I just love being out in the snow! I continue swim lessons and work on strength training during the winter so I will be ready to go next season.
