4 Tips To Keep the Holiday Weight Gain Away
Here’s a thought for the holidays. How about this year we don’t gain any weight!! Not 5 pounds, not 3 pounds, not even 1 pound! How shall we do that…rather…NOT do that?? Well, here are a few ideas:
- Keep exercising…no matter what! Even if you can’t get a full workout in, commit to a 10minute walk. The fresh air will clear your head & the activity will relax you. Need to multitask? Take a friend who you’ve been wanting to catch up with!
- Eat your veggies! I love a cheesy, high-fat, high salt artichoke dip as much as the next person. But my trick to managing holiday calorie intake is to stand next to the veggie tray…and eat…all of them! Most folks aren’t going for those beautiful raw cauliflowers, broccoli & carrots, so I use that to my advantage! I’ve found that if I keep eating the crunchy veggies (sans the dip, of course) I tend to stay away from the lil’ smokies!
- Drink your water…lots of it. We’ve all heard to drink a glass or two or three of water before heading into that potluck. Drinking water helps us feel fuller so we ultimately eat less. But you can also use water to help you drink less alcohol too. Use the 1-to-1 trick. Drink 1 full glass of water for every alcoholic drink you consume. Not only will the water offset the dehydrating effects of alcohol, but again, you’ll feel fuller which helps you drink less.
- Take a family walk after the huge meal. And we’re back to #1! After eating all of that Thanksgiving Day yumminess, round up the whole family for a post-meal stroll. The benefits are twofold: 1. You’ll wake up…which helps you burn more calories than falling asleep on the couch. 2. You’ll get some really great family bonding to boot!
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
