“A Week in My Life – Saturday” by Coach Michelle

A Week in My Life – Saturday, Feb. 4, 2023

For work, NONE!  Years ago, I made a commitment to work-free weekends.  When you’re self-employed, it’s easy to make every day a workday.  But have real, full, relaxing, freedom-filled weekends are SO important!  I value that time.  It gives me brain space to focus on other things, let my mind wander, be creative!

For exercise, I decided to take it easy.  My Oura data showed that my body was not quite recovered.  Since my Friday swim was pretty relaxed, I attributed my elevated body temp, RHR & respiratory rate to the healing that my PT session jumpstarted.

I’ve had my Oura about 2 years now.  And as I’ve worked with it more & more, I’ve zeroed in on several key metrics.  When Body Temp is over +0.8 deg above average, I pay attention.  When Lowest RHR is elevated by 5 beats or more, I pay attention.  When HRV is down by 20% or more, I pay attention.  And when Respiratory Rate is elevated by 1 or more breaths per minute, I pay attention.

The good thing was that the only metric out of my comfort zone was Body Temp.  The others were a bit off, but not enough to prompt a Rest Day.  So, I did a light exercise session just to keep moving.

For nutrition, this was my High Carb day.  Just like I have a Very Low Carb day, I also have a day where I eat more carbs than normal.  My goal being to improve metabolic flexibility – my body’s ability to efficiently respond to whatever fuel source is available.  Truthfully, this is my fun day!  I am a bit looser with what & how much I eat AND I enjoy a bit of sugar!
