Learning is “One Step Forward, Two Steps Back”

Learning…it’s never a linear process.  Our human brains are amazing, but they are not computers.  We can’t simply put the info in & expect things to be repeatable & duplicatable.  For most of us, learning is “one step forward, two steps back” approach where things get better one day & then seemingly worse the next.

In swim lessons we learn a multitude of different skills…some of which are quite easy for folks & some which are quite challenging.  Strangely I can NEVER predict how someone will react to the skill sets.  I guess that’s what makes it all so amazing & fun!  You just never know!

For Claudia, she breezed through bubble blowing, she flew right by submersions, she rocked floating.  But she got stuck on kicking mechanics.  It took 7 lessons of working on kicking in various ways…and then all of sudden, she got it!  She stayed patient, she kept asking questions, she kept trying & voila…she mastered kicking!!  Way to go, Claudia!

In Claudia’s own words:

“I am one of the very few people out there who grew up without learning or doing any sports.  It didn’t really bother me because work was a priority.  But a few years ago, things changed when I was blessed with 2 beautiful, very active boys.  They definitely push me out of my comfort zone because is much more fun to do activities together.  Swimming was one of those activities that I really wanted to be able to do with them.

When they turned 1 yrs old I put them in swim lessons.  They are both great at swimming & always have so much fun in the water!  I wanted to be part of that fun too, so I started searching for adult swim lessons.

Learning swimming (or any sport) as an adult is not easy – we started at the very, very beginning with simple things like blowing bubbles 😂.  But now we’ve moved out of the shallow end & into the 6′ deep side of the pool.  I believe that, with patience & time, I will be a ‘swimmer’!”
