Transform From a “Newbie” Into an “Athlete”

One of the most rewarding experiences I have as a coach is witnessing client transformations.  Sometimes that happens in just a few months…but more commonly, it’s a multi-year process.  Watching someone transform from a “newbie” into an “athlete”, seeing them gain confidence in their own abilities & helping them shift their goals from broad-based “I just want to finish” to more aggressive “I want to get better at X” goals……..yea………
there ain’t nothing better!

This is why I’m so proud of Sandy Vaughan.  We’ve been working together for 9 years & each year she’s become a more confident, a more focused & a smarter athlete.  Way to go, Sandy!

In Sandy’s own words:

“INTENTION.  I have chosen this as my focus word for this swim season.  My goal this season is to SWIM WITH INTENTION.

In the past my swim goals centered around making a time cutoff in a triathlon swim.  But now I don’t want to ‘just swim’, I want to improve as a swimmer.  I want to swim with more focus, more intention & more determination!

Learning new things (like swimming) as an adult is hard.  But I have to admit that I have had more swimming successes than I ever thought possible.  Recently, in a test set that we regularly do, I got brave & challenged myself to swim the set with a longer distance.  To my surprise I was able to take less strokes AND swim faster!  Swimming with intent really does work!”
